Event Description
Brandi & Reese Salmon - May/June Exhibition
Reese and Brandi Salmon are proud Wiradjuri sisters whose artistic practices are deeply rooted in culture, creativity, and storytelling. Each sister has carved her own path in the arts, yet their shared love for self-expression and connection to identity unites them.
Reese, the creator behind Nyiwarri Yarn, is a fibre artist living on Ngunnawal/Ngambri country. She began knitting and crocheting at 12, teaching herself various techniques that would later shape her creative business. Founded in 2023, Nyiwarri Yarn—named after the Wiradjuri word for “sweetheart” or “my love”—is the culmination of years of dedication to fibre arts. Through circular needles and flatbed knitting machines, Reese creates wearable pieces that not only reflect her passion but also celebrate and share her culture in a tangible way.
Brandi’s artistic journey began with drawing and gradually evolved into painting, a passion she has pursued for over a decade. Initially self-taught through YouTube tutorials, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Creative Arts from Deakin University in 2020 and is currently completing a Master of Fine Art at Monash University. Growing up in Victoria, Brandi worked as a Koori Family Violence Support Worker from 2017 to 2020, supporting Aboriginal women navigating the legal system. The strength and resilience of these women continue to inspire her art, shaping both her subject matter and style.
Together, Reese and Brandi use their artistic talents to honour their Wiradjuri heritage—whether through fibre arts or painting, their work is a celebration of culture, storytelling, and self-expression.
