Emma Stenhouse - No:Ri (Pelican) Print

Eyes downcast slowly searching along the shoreline to find the small feathers of the No:ri. The women collected these white feathers, cleaned them and dried them until the were light and fluffy, then they carefully used them to create feather flowers. These feather flowers were then traded and sold to help the women bring income or food in for their families in the early days. I have been in awe of these majestic birds, skilled at fishing and thriving on our waterways. The skill of featherflowers is a family storyline which has now been passed to me by Aunty Glenda Nicholls. I collect feathers on my travel and use them to create feather flowers for adornments, keeping a skill alive for another generation. Whenever I see a No:ri I think of those women who gathered together to provide for their families

All prints are produced on high quality, 210 GSM SIHL Premium Art paper and include a white border (roughly 25mm).
