Kakadu shrimp, River Prawns and common prawns all sit under the Kunwinjku name, wakih. Wakih are found in freshwater water ways in Kakadu and West Arnhem land, commonly used as live bait and caught for man me (bush food).
Artist Biography
Clarrie Nadjamerrek, born to Ruth Gamarrawu, senior Mirarr Traditional Owner and Ralph Nadjamerrek. Clarrie has grown up in Kakadu National Park all of his life, staying between Mudjinberri and Jabiru. Clarrie has worked with Gundjeihmi's Djurrubu Rangers for most of his adult life, becoming a senior voice for Mirarr people.
With deep artistic blood running through his Nadjamerrek side, Clarrie has only started painting later in his life, after Ranger work has been his main focus. Now partner to Roberta (Wurrkidj) Yulyulmarra, Clarrie has plentiul inspiration at his home in Jabiru.
